07/21/20 VA TECH FOOTBALL #2 — Last Sunday’s sermon about Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem reminded me of another VT football memory. Each fall one of the home games was designated Governor’s Day. VT has a significant cadet corps among its student body. On that day, at halftime, the governor of Virginia would take the microphone and officially cancel all the demerits of all the cadets. The roar from them was predictably deafening. That was the “good news.” The “bad news” is that the very next day, the senior cadets went on a vendetta, seemingly determined to dole out at least as many demerits to the underclassmen cadets as those just cancelled. My cadet friends told me that week was the WORST of the year!
1 John 1:9 (CSB) says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” And Psalm 103:12 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
Unlike the leaders of the VT cadet corps, when we surrender the control of our lives, relying on God’s promise to forgive our sins—past, present and future—He “FORGIVES” us and “REMOVES” them, once and for all! Praise the Lord!
