06/04/20 DANGEROUS LIKE LAZARUS — John 12:9-11 (CSB) says, “9 Then a large crowd of the Jews learned he was there. They came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, the one he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests had decided to kill Lazarus also, 11 because he was the reason many of the Jews were deserting them and believing in Jesus.”
Years ago I heard a young lady named Lucy Ross sing a great song, “Dangerous Like Lazarus.” The chorus began like this, “I want to be dangerous like Lazarus, To be a holy threat to the Prince of Darkness, A shining light for the Prince of Peace.” In the Scripture passage above, the Jewish leaders had already begun plotting to kill Jesus, as He continued to oppose their false teachings and gather huge crowds to Himself. Then Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. What a tremendous testimony Lazarus must have had when people asked about his terrible sickness, horrible death and miraculous resurrection! Because of him “many of the Jews… were believing Jesus.” So the leaders decided he had to be eliminated as well.
It’s exhilarating and (more than a little) scary at the same time. But I want MY TESTIMONY to be SO POWERFUL that crowds of people are believing in Jesus and becoming His disciples as a result. If that were happening, surely Satan would see me as a “holy threat,” and I would show up on “Satan’s Most Wanted List” (on the wall at his post office?).  WOW—May it be so, Lord!
