05/20/20 SIGNS
OF THE TIMES #2: TURN SIGNALS — By my rough estimates, no more than one third
of Knoxville motorists use their turn signals, neither when turning nor when
changing lanes. I’m pretty sure that we’re all supposed to “Signal our Turns.”
Ezekiel 18:30 (CSB) says “’Therefore,
house of Israel, I will judge each one of you according to his ways.’ This is the
declaration of the Lord God. ‘Repent and turn from all your rebellious acts, so
they will not become a sinful stumbling block to you.’” In the original Hebrew,
that verse does NOT say, “Repent and turn”; it actually literally says,
“Repent, Repent” or “Turn, Turn”—it’s the exact same Hebrew word repeated. It’s
the most common word in the OT translated “repent”; and it’s basic meaning is
“to turn.”
An important aspect of an
unbeliever’s conversion to Christ is to repent—to experience a profound change
of mind and TURN from one’s sins and toward God. An important element in any
Christian’s testimony is his/here story of that repentance, that TURNing.
Unfortunately surveyors tells us that American believers almost never share our
faith with anyone. Folks, God expects us to SIGNAL OUR TURNS, to tell others which
direction we were going and which way we’re headed now!
