05/05/20 PSALM 3—Last week at least 42 of the choir members of Wallace Memorial BC (including my wife) each made video recordings of himself or herself singing the latest arrangement of “Psalm 3,” one of my favorite anthems. Thanks to the magic of modern technology and the expertise of our worship pastor Herbert Beck, on Sunday May 3rd he combined them into one video, with 42 of their smiling faces on the screen simultaneously “singing their hearts out!” It was magnificent!
Psalm 3:3 (CSB) says “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.” WHY do people hang their heads and look down? Pain, shame, confusion, disillusion, disappointment, guilt, fear… In verses 1 and 2 David mentions troubles and adversaries increasing. And many tell you that you’re all alone, there’s no one to help you, not even God!?
Verse 3 begins with a stark contrast, “But”! YES, there IS Someone Who Can and Will Help You! His Name is Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, Almight God, the Great I AM. HE is your Shield; HE is your Glory! And YOU don’t even have to lift up your own head. HE WILL LIFT UP YOUR HEAD FOR YOU! Wow, Praise the Lord!
