04/07/20 Easter Drama #1: Central BC, Oak Ridge,
TN. Years ago (most of my posts seem to start that way?), I played the Roman centurion
who supervised Jesus’ mocking, torture and death. Beforehand we brushed
theatrical (fake) blood on my whip The flogging scene was positively gruesome! During
the play I scourged Jesus and hammered the nails. As we pretended to pick a man
out of the audience randomly to carry Jesus’ cross, an elderly man passed out.
A week later, after worship on Sunday a young boy yelled at me, “I know who you
are! YOU whipped Jesus! YOU killed Jesus! Then he kicked me in the shin—really
hard!? As they say, “No good deed goes unpunished!”
